So how about the new layout?

It was time for a change. Can you guys see the two pictures on the sidebar and the ticker above? Does this look okay in different browsers?

And different monitor resolutions. We're at 1280x1024. If you have a horizontal scrollbar coming up, then it's a monitor resolution problem that needs to get fixed in the template.

I can't see the pregnancy ticker anymore. Sadness.

More weirdness.... the ticker is *there* because the little pointy hand shows up when I hover over it, and it takes me to the website when I click on it, but I still can't see it.

I mentioned your digital camera dilemma to my friend Kat (who is an avid photographer and owns one of the Big People Digital Cameras with all the bells and whistles). Based on what you said on your blog entry, I got her to make a few recommendations:

in the 6 or 8 MP range : http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Canon-PowerShot-A530-Digital-Camera/sem/rpsm/oid/146233/catOid/-13062/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do (She says battery life on this one is bad unless you use rechargeables.)

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Nikon-Coolpix-L6-Digital-Camera-Silver/sem/rpsm/oid/160941/catOid/-13062/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Olympus-C-5500-SportZoom-Digital-Camera-Silver/sem/rpsm/oid/128074/catOid/-13062/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Hope that helps and doesn't make you more confused. ;-) She also suggested you look at customer reviews.

Kat has good taste in cameras :) Her list and mine seem to have the same models. One of those is probably what we'll get, although I'd prefer a Canon 30D with some upscale lenses.

Yep, can see all the doo-dads ... although my potential technical difficulties are often preempted by my wonderful, IT-enabled Husband.

I would also like to mention that I absolutely *love* that not only do you know the sex of your baby (no offense to those that choose not to know, personal preferences and all that), but you've named her and let everybody know! That's always been my plan of action, should the opportunity arise. :)

And "Elimae" is pretty.

I always knew I liked you, Alysia. ;-)

We have gotten a lot of negative responses to both Elimae and Madelaine- Elimae because it's weird and made-up and "hard to pronounce and spell," and Madelaine mainly for the [slightly] variant spelling. The experience of announcing the names has made me more inclined to go out of my way to comment positively whenever possible about people's unusual name choices (like Chris and Jordana's planned names for Remora- which are beautiful) :-).

I'm planning to get an epidural, too, by the way. Because Drugs are Good For Us. ;-)

screen comes in fine on Firefox at 1280X1024

:-) I admit I'm still getting used to "Elimae" just 'cause it's unusual, but I think "Madelaine Elimae" is a lovely name, and suitable. :-D I'm soooo glad you decided to go ahead and name her. Madelaine is way cuter than Galois. ;-)

I was thinking that we shouldn't name her, but I realized that after birth "hey you" would eventually morph into Heyou and then she'd eseentially be named anyway. Even something that nobody can pronounce by sight alone is preferable to that.

Well, I don't think anyone will have trouble figuring out how to pronounce "Madelaine"... or at least they won't be too far off. "Elimae" may cause people to try to say "eliminate" 'cause of that pesky muscle memory thing. Hmm.... you could just name her "Eliminate" and say she's named for *both* parents. :-D
